I'm here for the "craic"
Ireland is a country that any backpacker just has to visit! Even if you are not into history, it is worth a visit just to meet the friendly and charming people.
Anyway, the city I would like to tell you about is Kilkenny. It is the home of the magnificent Kilkenny Castle, a huge medieval castle with beautiful surroundings and gardens.Another place worth visiting is Rothe House, another famous site. There are various other sites such as St.Canices Cathedral (Infact, Kilkenny means 'The Church of Canice'), a protestant cathedral with a huge tower which you can climb to the top of and see for miles around the city, the Black Abbey and you can visit the remains of the city walls.
If you are in any of the pubs, make sure and say that you're in Ireland for 'the craic' (pronounced crack) and the locals will warm to you instantly. Oh, and by the way, the word 'craic' doesn't mean what you might think it means, it means 'fun' in Gaelic Irish!
