The Royal Oak's main building is over 400 years old and was originally a house, it then become a pub with a small tap room, from which it gradually developed into the pub it is today. The current owners, Angie and Steve Trippitt spent the first three years renovating The Royal Oak to its current condition.They like to keep it a family run Inn rather than a hotel (they have three small children). Angie says 'Its very much a locals pub but visitors are made very welcome'.Steve and Angie moved to Bowness six years ago, when they spotted the pub for sale whilst on holiday. Steve continues in his trade as a builder, helping with all the cellar work, whilst Angie, who has worked in pubs since she was 18, runs the front of house.Steve is an 'Ex National British Schoolboy Boxing Champion', hence many photos and newspaper clippings are displayed in the bar.The Royal Oak sponsors the, Windermere Rugby Team, providing the after match food and the full kit.
