Hotel Address
Campo Santa Maria Formosa, Castello 5240, Venice, IT, 30122
The origins of the palazzo that hosts the Hotel Scandinavia go back deep in time. The building dates from the year 1000 and it is said that this is the very place where Desdemona met Othello, the Moor of Venice. The Hotel windows provide a stupendous view- to the building*s left is the Church of Santa Maria Formosa, whose name is linked to an ancient legend. It is said that this Campo was the site of the apparition of a rather prosperous-looking Madonna and, to celebrate this miracle, a church was built in 1492 that was given the name of Santa Maria Formosa -the Buxom-.
