If you cannot find your answer then feel free to post it on the forums. Myself or another backpacker from the community will help you.

   How much does it cost?
?

In rough numbers, about US$50 a day. Here is a guide based on what I spent on average in Paris per day.

Lodging $17.50
Food $8.00
Local Transportation
(metro & local train to Versailles)
$8.00
Sightseeing $8.00
Souvenirs $4.50
Total

$46.00

Of course, you can adjust this a bit. Normally allow $20 to $25 for a hotel or hostel. Reduce the souvenirs almost to nothing and eat cheaper. The average amount on food above includes a very nice meal on a Parisian cafe. Normally, in Northern Europe things are more expensive than the south. You have to make more efforts in England or Scandinavia in order to save money, and still it will never be as cheap as living as a king in the South.

Also, you must add your Europass. A Eurail Youth Flexipass costs $450 for 10 days of travel or $600 per 15 days of travel in a two month period.

The Airplane ticket can be around $500 to $1000, depending on the season. I have know of people that has gotten one for as low as $300, but you have to dig and wait for a good opportunity.

Should I carry cash or traveler checks or debit/credit cards?
?

    Easy, use them all.

Split your money. Never thrust in a single source. If you use only your ATM card you will certainly get good exchange rates and no commission, but if it gets lost, stolen or stuck in the ATM you cannot get a replacement as easy as you could do with traveler checks.

If you carry traveler checks, consider American Express, if you change them in an American Express office (which are everywhere) you will get good exchange rates and no commission charge. Some cash might take you out of trouble in an emergency. U.S. Dollars are well accepted in all Europe. Also, a credit card with some cash in advance is a great help.

The point is: Do not put all your eggs in a single basket! Split your money and do not trust a single source. Always carry them on your money belt.

  Can I use ATMs?
?

Yes, Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted. And you will not be charged with any commission fee and you'll always get a good exchange rate.
