What is a Europass or a Eurailpass?
?

The Europass or Eurailpass are a relatively inexpensive train ticket that, under a single price, allows you to travel through Europe. This means that instead of buying individual tickets to travel from one city to another whose price changes depending on the distance traveled, you can buy your pass (only once) and then you can travel around Europe ignoring the length of each individual travel. However, some restrictions apply to this special ticket.

Are seat reservations required even if I use my Europass?
?

Yes, you require to make reservations when you are traveling in a fast train, like: TGV, Pendolino, Thalys, Eurostar, X2000, and highly recommended for ICE and certain InterCity and EuroCity trains. Also, Friday and Sunday evenings and afternoons are peak travel periods, so you might want to consider making a reservation. Also, some long distance trains require them.
